Barnegat To Show Drive-In Movies At The Dock

Drive-in movies have resurged in Ocean County during the coronavirus outbreak. Here's what's playing in Barnegat.

Update: Barnegat Recreation will show "Grease" instead of "Jaws" on July 10.

BARNEGAT, NJ — Drive-in movies have resurged around Ocean County during the coronavirus pandemic, and Barnegat will get in on the action. Barnegat Recreation will show three drive-in movies at the public dock.

Movies will begin at 8:30 p.m. each night. Social distancing rules remain in effect, unless Governor Phil Murphy changes his orders. All patrons must remain in their vehicles.

Here's the tentative schedule:

  • June 27: "Frozen 2"
  • July 10: "Grease"
  • July 31: "The Lion King"

Major motion picture companies put the Township on notice that all contracted outdoor movie agreements are subject to change.

New Jersey's indoor movie theaters have been closed since March because of the coronavirus. In the absence of typical theaters, drive-in experiences have popped up throughout.

New Jersey's indoor movie theaters have been closed since March because of the coronavirus. But gatherings of vehicles for drive-in movies are no longer a violation of Murphy's executive orders, he announced May 13. Cars must stay at least 6 feet apart, with windows remaining closed.
