Flooding, Swimming Bans In LBI Amid Tropical Storm Fay

The National Weather Service expects dangerous rip currents at New Jersey beaches through Friday evening.

BEACH HAVEN, NJ — Beach Haven prohibited swimming Friday as Tropical Storm Fay hits Long Beach Island and the Jersey Shore.

The National Weather Service expects dangerous rip currents at New Jersey beaches through Friday evening. The NWS says the following about rip currents:

"Entering the surf is discouraged. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help."

Long Beach Township police announced road flooding at about 11:30 a.m. Friday. They didn't immediately specify where flooding took place but said to limit travel at this time.

Long Beach Boulevard is closed on most of the south end of the island because of flooding, the Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company announced at around noon Friday.

"If you must drive slowly through the flooded area," LBTPD said via Nixle.

Ocean County is under a flash flood warning through Friday evening. Forecasters project 1-4 inches of rain widespread and likely higher in some unspecified local areas.
