Stafford police said June 27 that Jax was spotted eating and drinking water at animal control's bait station for two straight nights. He also slept on his owner's clothes that were set down. Although efforts to secure him hadn't been successful, Jax was establishing a routine as officials anticipated.

Stafford police and animal control announced July 1 that Jax's family began working with an independent organization in attempts to rescue him.
