Dom's Drive In On LBI Holding Its Last Day Monday

BEACH HAVEN, NJ — Dom's Drive In on Long Beach Island will hold its last official day Columbus Day, closing after 32 years.

Dom's delicacies included hot dogs, cheesesteaks and ice cream. But the eatery also holds plenty of memories for patrons.

"If I ever had to choose a last meal, it would have been a cheesesteak from Dom’s," one Facebook commenter wrote. "This restaurant has been summer for me since I was probably 14 years old, ordering food and then plunking down several quarters into the Yie Ar Kung-Fu video game while I waited for Rich to make my steak. I’ll miss it terribly. Long Beach Island won’t be the same."

"My family has been on East 40th for five generations," another person said. "Walking to Dom's for ice cream or that last slice of pizza before heading off the island are among my favorite memories."

Several southern Ocean County restaurants have closed in recent months. Many, such as the Tuckerton Beach Grille, cited financial difficulties associated with the coronavirus pandemic. Delights Artisan Cafe in Barnegat closed indefinitely last month because of hardships associated with the pandemic.
