Escape Room Craze Reaches Beach Haven With Escape LBI

BEACH HAVEN, NJ — When you visit Long Beach Island, you might never want to leave. Getting stuck in Escape LBI can help with that.

The escape room center, which opened Wednesday, features three different rooms:

1. What Happened in Raven Woods?: This game is an escape room first with creepy elemtns added. It's played in the dark for a greater challenge.

The room utilizes fog, stroke lights and sudden prop movements. You can let your game master know if these effects can't be used for health reasons.

  • Recommended number of players: 5-7
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • advisory: 15 years or older recommended

2. Cypherspace: As astronauts with the Canadian Space Agency, your mission is to retrieve a probe that's been collecting data from a wormhole in deep space for hundreds of years. You have 60 minutes to achieve this before your ship is lost.

  • Recommended number of players: 6-7

3. The Lost Jewel of Zanzibar: It's 1930. Your colleague, Magnus Ferguson has been exploring throughout Africa searching for antiquities. He's made a wondrous discovery, but it's in danger of falling into a ruthless, dishonest warlord's hands.

Magnus has hidden the jewel in his camp and left clues only you can interpret. You can 60 minutes before the warlord reaches camp to steal the gem.

  • Recommended number of players: 5-7

Escape LBI is located at 905 North Bay Ave., Beach Haven. It's open every day from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Escape rooms have become popular in recent years. They're a live-action, team-based game where players cooperatively discover clues, solve puzzles and accomplish tasks in one or more rooms in a limited amount of time.

Permanent escape rooms first appeared Asia before their popularity spread to other parts of the world, according to Market Watch.
