Final Upgrades Added To Project Playground In Barnegat

Mayor Al Bille thought the playground could reopen this weekend, but the new equipment that was delivered was not up to insurance standards.

BARNEGAT, NJ — Final upgrades are being added to Project Playground in Barnegat, though an opening date has not been announced yet.

During the township committee meeting on Tuesday, Mayor Al Bille said he thought the playground could reopen as soon as this weekend, but the new equipment that was delivered was not up to insurance standards.

“I was hopeful tonight to say it will be open on Saturday, but guess what? One of the parts that was delivered for some of the new equipment is not up to insurance standards,” he said. “I’ve got to wait for that to be finished, so that is going to have to wait.”

The playground closed in January for the Department of Public Works to correct issues that cause flooding in the park.

New mulch, benches and upgrades have been added to all of Barnegat's parks, including Project Playground, Bille said.
