Former Southern Reg. Teacher, Beach Haven Fire Life Member Dies
Charles Elford Moffett III was a life member of the Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company and Beach Haven First Aid Squad.
BEACH HAVEN, NJ — Charles Elford Moffett III, 89, died Saturday. Moffett was a retired Southern Regional High School teacher and life member of the Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company and Beach Haven First Aid Squad.
Moffett was born in Trenton but lived in Beach Haven since 1945. He graduated Barnegat High School in 1949 before serving the Navy in the Korean War from 1951-54, according to his obituary.
The Beach Haven resident was a social studies teacher and department supervisor for SRHS.

Moffett also held several roles in Beach Haven. He was borough commissioner and director of public works. Moffett also served as chairman of the Beach Haven Sewerage Authority. He was an exempt fireman for the BHVFC and treasurer of the Beach Haven First Aid Squad.
The Beach Haven resident was also a member, chairman of administrative council, lay leader and historian at Kynett United Methodist Church.

Moffett received the Award for Excellence in Community Service from the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1996. The New Jersey Senate and General Assembly declared him Veteran of the Year in 2016 for his service in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn L (nee Brong); three daughters, Charlene White of Palmyra, Pennsylvania, Christine Roth of Manahawkin and Cherylanne Thyrum of Cranberry; and his five grandsons, Charles Edward White, Ian Christopher Roth, Jacob Tyler Roth, Aaron Axel Thyrum and Erik Roald Thyrum.
Visitation will take place at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 1 at Kynett United Methodist Church (127 Centre St., Beach Haven). The memorial service will start at 11 a.m. Private cremation will occur at the direction of the Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home in Ship Bottom.
