LBI To Hold 'Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs' Kid's Event
The youth surf fishing tournament takes place Saturday at Sunset Park in Harvey Cedars.
HARVEY CEDARS, NJ — A youth fishing tournament will take place Saturday at Sunset Park in Harvey Cedars. The Association of Surf Angling Clubs's Youth Surf Fishing Tournament is also a "Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs" event.
The free event is open to kids ages 5 to 17. Children must be accompanies by an adult at all times. Bringing your own surf rod is recommended, since loaner rods are limited.
Registration takes place from 8-9 a.m. The first 200 kids to register get free t-shirts. Lunch, gift bags and door prizes will be provided.

Awards will be presented to winners. There will also be police displays and other exhibits after the tournament.
The event is presented by the Borough of Harvey Cedars, LBI Fishing CLub, ASAC For Kids, PBA #175 and #373, Okies Butcher Shop, and LBTPD Community Policing/DARE Program.

Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs is a nationally recognized program. Former Governor Chris Christie established its statewide implementation in 2012, according to the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. The program's goal is to encourage school-aged children to avoid alcohol or drug use by helping them develop fishing skills and appreciation.
