LBI's 53 MPH Wind Among NJ's Highest Recorded Monday

Harvey Cedars's wind was the 8th-fastest out of select towns around the state that the NJ Weather & Climate Network monitors.

HARVEY CEDARS, N.J. — Harvey Cedars's 53 mph wind Monday was among the fastest recorded in New Jersey. The New Jersey Weather & Climate Network, which monitors select towns spread throughout the state, listed Harvey Cedars's wind as the eighth-fastest logged that day.

The following areas listed faster maximum wind speeds:

  • Lower Alloways Creek: 81 mph
  • Logan Township: 64
  • Berkeley Township: 62
  • Sea Girt: 62
  • High Point Monument: 61
  • Seaside Heights: 56
  • Moorestown: 55

More than 41,000 lost power in New Jersey Monday in a wild overnight storm. Roads were closed, and the North Jersey Coast Line was shut down in the Middletown area because a tree fell on the tracks and wires.

LBI recorded the fastest winds during Feb. 25's wind frenzy, with Beach Haven's blowing 60 mph. Around Ocean County, traffic lights went out.
