Local Artists Take Inspiration From Manahawkin Lake Park
Members venture year-round to different parks across Ocean County for plein-air art sessions, a method of producing art outdoors.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Local artists in the Pine Shores Art Association (PSAA) immersed themselves in the 45-degree weather Thursday morning to draw, paint and take photos at Manahawkin Lake Park.
Members venture year-round to different parks across Ocean County for plein-air art sessions, a method of producing art outdoors.
“These events are great at a time like this when [The Pine Shores Art Association] can’t meet in-person,” member Suzi Hoffman said.

Socially-distant artists wrapped in coats, hats and scarves, positioned themselves around the lake to capture unique aspects of the park in their artwork.
“I love the outdoors and I love to paint,” said Tom Troyano of Manahawkin, as he set up his watercolor paint kit overlooking the lake. Sporting sunglasses, a windbreaker and a knit hat, Toryano said he came prepared for the outdoor art session.

Hoffman said over 300 members belong to the Pine Shores Art Association and new members of all experience levels are welcome to join. The PSAA had a limited reopening of its Manahawkin studio this fall.
The PSAA produced a digital exhibition in December titled “Deck the Screen” to showcase artwork created by its members. The exhibition can be viewed here.
