Manahawkin Student Nets International Award For Leadership Skills
Melissa Misurelli's passion for fitness led to the start of her own personal training program that helped kids stay fit amid remote learning

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — A Manahawkin student was one of 18 people to receive an international scholarship award that recognizes the leadership skills of students under 18.
Melissa Misurelli, a Monsignor Donovan High School graduate, received a $1,000 scholarship from the National Society of High School Scholars.
Misurelli serves as a math tutor, varsity swim team captain and works as a lifeguard for the Ship Bottom Beach Patrol.

Her passion for fitness led to the start of her own personal training business in August that motivates kids ages six through thirteen to spend time outside and stay fit amid remote learning.
“Together the kids and I train by running, doing my homemade workouts and genuinely enjoying each other’s company after a long, stressful indoor school day,” said Misurelli in her scholarship video submission.

Misurelli will continue her education at the Stevens Institute of Technology this fall to study biology.
“As a teammate, swimmer, scholar and future doctor, my leadership capabilities can only grow with my educational progression,” she said.
NSHSS is an international honors and scholarship program. The 18 Under 18 Award was established to recognize students under 18 who are passionate about their contributions to society and showcase how they plan to utilize this passion moving forward into their college career to further effect change.
