Michael Somers, Former Jersey City Police Lieutenant, Dies At 67

Michael Somers of Barnegat gained his wings on January 20, 2018. He was 67.

Born in Jersey City to Daniel and Bernice Somers, Michael served proudly in the US Navy and the Jersey City Police Department where he held the title of radio room commander and retired as a lieutenant.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Mary Alice Somers; three loving daughters and their spouses, Jodie Ann and Gary Charney, Mary Beth and Brian Walpole, Mary Somers and Joaquin Mendez; nine cherished grandchildren; one cherished great-grandchild; and two devoted sisters.

Viewings will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at the Barnegat Funeral Home at 841 West Bay Avenue in Barnegat. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary's Church in Barnegat. Cremation will be private.
