Nor'easter Impacts In Barnegat: School Updates, Forecast

A mix of rain and snow continued to hit Barnegat, Manahawkin and Long Beach Island on Monday with more on the way.

BARNEGAT, NJ — A mix of rain and snow continued to hit Barnegat, Manahawkin and Long Beach Island on Monday with more on the way (see the updated forecast below).

The NWS placed Barnegat and surrounding areas under a coastal flood warning through Tuesday at 5 p.m. and a winter storm warning until 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Ahead of the storm, both Barnegat and Stafford Township School Districts transitioned to a remote learning day on Monday. Both districts will also follow a fully virtual schedule on Tuesday. There will be no in-person instruction for staff or students.

Roads conditions remain hazardous throughout the state. New Jersey declared a state of emergency, suspended trains and buses and restricted travel on highways.

Here's the NWS's forecast for the Barnegat area as of 3 p.m. Monday:

Monday: Rain. High near 37. Breezy, with a northeast wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Monday night: Rain, snow, and sleet before 2am, then rain and snow likely between 2am and 3am, then snow likely after 3am. Low around 29. Blustery, with a northeast wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Tuesday: Snow likely before 2pm, then a chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a high near 36. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday night: A chance of snow before 8pm, then a chance of snow showers between 8pm and 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 25. Northwest wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
