Ocean Acres 'Miracle' Cat Rescued, Reunited With Family

A cat was stuck in a tree for four days in frigid temperatures. She found her way back to her family.

It took a long, frigid journey and a team effort for a cat in Ocean Acres to get rescued from a tree and reunite with family. That's why Stafford Township Animal Control named her "Miracle."

Animal control responded to a call earlier this month about a cat stuck 60 feet high in an Ocean Acres tree. The black tabby had been stuck in the tree for four days when temperatures sat in the teens, which made the rescue urgent, according to animal control.

Stafford Township fire official Heidi Michel tried climbing high enough to feed the cat, but her efforts were unsuccessful. Then Michel contacted Manahawkin Tree Service. Owner Charles Kochman and lift operator Ken Updegrave came to the scene and transported the cat to the ground.

Officials took the cat to Stafford Veterinary Hospital, where she received a clean bill of health. Then they took her to the Southern Ocean County Animal Center.

Animal control named the feline "Miracle." Stafford Township posted on Facebook Thursday that they were looking for Miracle's owner. They have since updated the post to announce she has been reunited with family.
