Ocean Township Founders Day Canceled Due To Coronavirus

The annual Township of Ocean event, which includes fireworks, was scheduled for May 23.

OCEAN TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Township of Ocean Founders Day was canceled this year because of the new coronavirus. The annual event was set for May 23.

Ocean Township officials announced the decision Thursday. Founders Day features festivities such as food trucks, live music, children's activities and fireworks.

Vendor’s can obtain a refund by contacting Recreation Director Jean Broadbent, Recreation Director at recreation@twpoceannj.gov or 609-693-3302 ext. 601.

Local officials and organizers will have decisions to make on upcoming spring and summer gatherings. Some have already been canceled.

The Ocean County Fair — set for July 8-12 — was canceled April 8. A major partner, the Rutgers Cooperative Extension, canceled all of its 4H activities through Aug. 31 because of the virus.

The Waretown Wine Festival — originally set for May 2 and 3 — was postponed to Sept. 12 and 13.

The Ocean County Health Department has reported 5,366 coronavirus cases and 291 deaths as of Thursday.
