Officials Secure Manahawkin Gas Leak; Rt. 9 Reopens

Part of Route 9 was closed about an hour after a construction company struck a gas line.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Officials temporarily closed part of Route 9 because of a gas leak Thursday, according to Stafford police. The road reopened at 12:10 p.m. after officials secured the scene.

Route 9 closed between Oxycocus and North Lakeshore Drive at 11:28 a.m. A construction company struck a gas line in the area.

New Jersey Natural Gas went to the scene, and police directed traffic. Officials enforced proper evacuations, and no injuries have been reported.
