The restaurateur is survived by his wife, Samantha, and daughters Avalon and Addison.

Shore Thing Catering began two years before Shore Fire Grille opened in 2012. Kohlheim never worked the line in a kitchen until opening his own restaurant. He got his business degree and then attended culinary school but didn't finish, according to the restaurant's website.

Shore Fire Grille operated in Barnegat for five years before moving to Manahawkin in 2017. The concept for the restaurant was to offer something to everyone — dishes Kohlheim called crowd pleasers. But one of the main attractions was the award-winning burgers.

The business reminded everyone that despite the Manahawkin closure, this is just a new chapter.

"This is not goodbye, just see you in the spring!" they said.
