Southern Regional Holds Halloween Gingerbread House Contest

The creative baking classes at Southern Regional Middle School held a Halloween inspired gingerbread house contest.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ - The kids at Southern Regional are having a baking contest involving the best Halloween gingerbread house, according to a release from Southern Regional. While gingerbread houses have typically fallen as a standard for the Christmas celebrations, the Creative Baking class at Southern Regional is putting a unique twist on it.

In teams, the students had to make and bake the dough, decide on a design, and decorate the house all while keeping it structurally sound (and tasty looking). While it sounds like a lot of fun, the exercise helped to reinforce teamwork, planning as well as math and geometry skills, according to Southern Regional.

All the houses are on display for teachers to check out and vote on. The winning house will be chosen on Halloween.
