Stafford Police: 'Zero Tolerance’ For Illegal Fireworks

Stafford police announced Friday that they will increase patrols in residential areas to crack down on fireworks violations this weekend.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Stafford police will enforce a "zero tolerance" policy on illegal fireworks and related noise violations over Fourth of July weekend.

The police department announced Friday that they will increase patrols in residential areas to crack down on fireworks violations.

Though ground-based fireworks are legal in New Jersey, aerial fireworks, such as bottle rockets, Roman candles and firecrackers remain illegal.

Stafford also has a disturbing the peace ordinance and noise ordinance, which prohibits "excessive noise" after 10 p.m.

“Each summer and holiday weekend, Stafford Township receives an inordinate number of firework and noise complaints,” Stafford police said. “As you celebrate this weekend, please keep in mind that the response to these complaints consume much of our officers’ patrol time, taking time away from our efforts of proactive DWI enforcement.”
