Vehicles Stuck In High Flood Waters: Stafford PD

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Several vehicles got stuck in high flood waters Thursday, Stafford police announced.

Police listed several areas you should avoid amid severe flooding:

  • Lighthouse Drive/Atlantis Avenue
  • Mermaid Drive/Atlantis Avenue
  • Neptune Drive/Breakers Avenue

A flash flood warning for central Ocean County is in effect until 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

In Barnegat, flooding closed Lighthouse Drive between Harpoon Drive and Buccaneer Lane for about two hours. Barnegat police announced at 6:33 p.m. that it reopened.

The Ocean County Sheriff's Office posted a video from Siobhan Rodgers of vehicles driving through flooding on Route 72 in Stafford. The OSCO also said to expect delays at the Causeway Bridge because of flooding.

"Attempting to drive through this is never a good idea," the OSCO said on Facebook. "If you see flooding like this....STOP."

Most flood deaths occur in vehicles, the National Weather Service says. If you see your route flooded, turn around, the NWS advises.
