What Time Will It Hit 100 Degrees In Barnegat And Manahawkin Today?

If your air conditioning is not working, here are some places to cool off.

The National Weather Service again has issued a heat advisory for Barnegat, Stafford and much of New Jersey through 8 p.m. today.

Though temperatures by themselves are not expected to hit 100 degrees, it will feel like it is that hot because high levels of humidity continue to blanket the area.

The heat index is expected to eclipse 100 degrees by 11 a.m., according to Accuweather.com, reaching as high as 106 degrees, while the actual temperature reaches a high of 93 degrees.

A heat advisory means that a period of excessive heat is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on elderly relatives and neighbors. Make sure your pets have plenty of water and shelter from the sun. Children and pets should never be left unattended in a parked vehicle under any circumstance but most especially during hot weather. The interior of a vehicle can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

If you have to be outside, limit your strenuous activities to the evening if at all possible. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible all day today, so be aware of the weather and the possibility it could change when you go out.

If you need relief from the heat because you lack air conditioning or because it isn’t working properly, here are two places you can go that cost nothing:

  • The Barnegat branch of the Ocean County Library on Burr Street is open until 5 p.m., and the Stafford branch on North Main Street is open until 9 p.m. and both have activities as well as books.
  • The Nature Center at Wells Mills County Park on Route 532 in Waretown is open until 4 p.m.
