WWII Vet, Longtime Manahawkin Resident, Passes Away
John Robert Tamn served in the Navy and worked with the Air Force for 30 years.

MANAHAWKIN, N.J. — John Robert Tamn, a World War II veteran and longtime Manahawkin resident, died May 19 at 92. Tamn served in the Navy and worked with the Air Force as a civilian engineer in construction management for 30 years.
Tamn was born in Newark Oct. 4, 1926. He had lived in Manahawkin and Surf City. Tamn was a church member of St. Mary's in Barnegat.
The veteran's obituary describes Tamn as "a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great, great-grandpa." He taught at a junior high school before working with the Air Force. In his later years, he became and avid gardener and mowed his own lawn until family took away his mower at age 91.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Tamn, and wife, Donna, of Little Egg Harbor, N.J., and Mark Tamn and wife, Lynn, of Hampstead, N.C.; four grandchildren, Richard Tamn, Jr., Angela Tamn Bianchini and husband, Joseph, Nichola Tamn Riddle and husband, Jonathan, and Dustin Tamn of Philadelphia; great-grandchild, McKenna Riddle; and a brother, Michael Tamn in Pemberton, N.J.
A funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29 at St. Mary's of the Pines Catholic Church, followed by entombment in St. Mary's Cemetery in Manahawkin.
