Atlantic City's New AFL Team Signs Jersey Shore Native At QB

Atlantic City's new Arena Football team gave the Jersey Shore a nod by announcing local native Warren Smith joined the team.

Atlantic City's new Arena Football team just the Jersey Shore a nod in its first player signing. Atlantic City AFL announced Tuesday that Lacey native Warren Smith will join the tam at quarterback.

Smith has played professional football since 2012. The Lacey High School product earned the 2018 ArenaBowl Championship with the Washington Valor.

"It truly is an honor to be the first player signed to the new Atlantic City Arena Football team and I'm extremely excited about the opportunity to play in my home state," Smith said in a team statement. "Not only do I get the opportunity to play in front of my family and friends, which is a dream come true, but I get to play for a first-class organization, with top notch Owners, Front Office and Coaches."

Smith began his pro-football career with the German Football League's Dresden Monarchs. He led the Monarchs in passing and finished second in rushing en route to a 10-0 record.

Then the signal caller returned to the states to join the Richmond Raiders of the Professional Indoor Football League. Smith led the Raiders to the league's second-best record and the championship game.

Smith won the PIFL league MVP in 2014 before transitioning to the AFL, where he was assigned to the Spokane Shock. With the Valor in 2018, Smith threw for 10 touchdowns and 488 yards in nine games. The Valor won ArenaBowl XXXI, 69-55, against the Baltimore Brigade.
