Cedar Creek High School Football Team to Play West Deptford for South Jersey Title

Cedar Creek came from behind to upset Haddonfield Friday night.

The Cedar Creek High School football team will play for a South Jersey championship in two weeks.

Third-seeded Cedar Creek rallied for the second time in two weeks to upset No. 2 Haddonfield, 14-9, in the semifinals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group II playoffs Friday night, according to nj.com.

Cedar Creek will face top-seeded West Deptford, a 21-10 semifinal winner over No. 4 Buena, at Rowan University in the championship game on Dec. 4.

Haddonfield held a 9-7 lead at halftime, but the Pirates’ defense shut out the Bulldawgs in the second half. Bo Melton scored the game-winning touchdown on a 69-yard run in the third quarter.

He scored Cedar Creek’s other touchdown as well, on a 13-yard run that put the Pirates on the board first, in the first quarter.

Haddonfield took the lead with two scores in the second quarter.

Tommy Kadar pulled the Bulldawgs to within one on a 6-yard touchdown run, and Drew Tomlinson gave them the lead with a 39-yard field goal.

For Cedar Creek, it was the second rally of the playoffs. Last week, the Pirates came from behind to defeat No. 6 Collingswood, 21-20, in the quarterfinals.

Before the championship game, each team has a Thanksgiving Day rival to deal with.

Cedar Creek visits St. Augustine Prep on Thursday morning, 10 a.m.

West Deptford visits Paulsboro on Saturday, Nov. 28, 11 a.m.
