Fire Destroys Vacant House in Galloway

Investigators look into cause of fire that destroyed a vacant house on the 400 Block of S. Poplar Avenue late Monday evening.

A fire destroyed a vacant house on the 400 Block of South Poplar Avenue late Monday evening, Galloway Police said.

The Pomona Fire Company responded and found heavy fire from the residence. Firefighters brought the blaze, and brought it under control just before midnight.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Galloway Township Fire Marshal Ron Garbutt, Township Fire Investigator Scott Feldman, and Township Police Lt. Joseph Picardi. Investigator Stephen Letts of the New Jersey State Fire Marshal’s Office is also helping in the inquiry.

Firefighters from Bayview, Germania, and South Egg Harbor assisted Pomona in bringing the blaze under control. Oceanville and Cologne firefighters provided coverage to the rest of the township during the fire. Galloway EMS, Galloway Police, Atlantic City Electric and South Jersey Gas also responded to the scene.
