MAYS LANDING, NJ — Forever 21 is about to close six of its 20 stores in New Jersey after filing for bankruptcy. The Hamilton Mall location is one of them.

Forever 21 announced it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in a letter to customers. They made it clear, however, that they aren't going out of business. The teenage clothing store instead filed for bankruptcy protection as a "deliberate and decisive step to put us on a successful track for the future," according to the letter.

Forever 21 announced Tuesday that the following New Jersey locations will are also set to close by the end of the year:

  • Cherry Hill
  • Short Hills
  • East Brunswick

There is also a Forever 21 at the Tanger Outlets in Atlantic City.
