Junior High Actors to Perform "Once Upon A Mattress" at Music Pier in Ocean City Saturday
"Once Upon a Mattress" and the King and Queen of Plop add some spice to the waning days of summer in Ocean City.

Looking for something to do in Ocean City in the coming weeks ? Here are a couple of suggestions from the city’s public relations director, Mark Soifer:
Aug. 22: The 6th to 9th grade members of Michael Hartman’s Greater Ocean City Theatre Company’s Junior Company will present Once Upon a Mattress at 2 and 7:30 p.m. at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. The comic musical retells the story of “The Princess and the Pea” fairy tale. The plot revolves around Prince Dauntless, who’s picky mother, Queen Aggravain, insists her son’s intended bride first pass her arduous test.
Donald Toal, directs, Lisa Toal choreographs and Betsy Pruitt-Harrison serves as musical director. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the door, by calling (609) 525-9248 or visiting www.ocnj.us/boxoffice.

The theatre company created their junior counterpart to enhance theater education in the greater Ocean City region. Students with an interest in theater, dance and music from schools across the Delaware Valley audition to be a member.
Sept. 4: A Mark Soifer special, The selection of the King and Queen of Plop is Ocean City’s unique way of greeting the fall season. Also known as the Mr. Fall Guy and Miss Fall Gal Pageant, contestants are asked to celebrate the fall by falling dramatically and in slow motion to the sand. The emphasis is on slow motion is designed to prevent injuries while greeting the new season. Those performing the most dramatic renditions will be designated the King and Queen of Plop. Registration begins 10:30 a.m. at the 9th Street Beach, with the contest beginning at 11 a.m. Entry is free and prizes will be awarded. For more information, call (609) 399-6111.
