No Injuries as Pickup Strikes School Bus in Smithville

Four people were in the bus at the intersection of Route 9 and Smithville Boulevard in Galloway Township.

A pickup truck struck a school bus waiting at a traffic light on Route 9 in Smithville on Monday afternoon, but nobody was injured in the collision, according to Galloway Township police.

A 1999 Chevy pickup driven by Julie Staley hit a school bus driven by Nofa Charles at 3:51 p.m. Monday (Jan. 27), police said in a news release. The bus was waiting at a red traffic signal on Route 9 at the intersection with Smithville Boulevard.

The pickup was traveling south at the time of impact, police said. The bus had two adults and two children on board at the time of collision. The center 
lane of Route 9 was shut down for 30 minutes while the pickup truck and debris were removed.

The school bus sustained minor damage. 

The driver of the pickup was issued a summons for careless driving, according to police. Ofc. Steve Garrison is investigating.
