Atlantic County Man Fatally Hit By Car, Organs Donated
Kamal Chand became an organ donor after earning American citizenship. His family took him off life support and will donate his organs.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — A pedestrian hit by a van on Monday died from his injuries. Kamal Chand was hospitalized after the incident on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township. Now he's in position to save three lives.
Doctors determined that the accident caused major head trauma, leaving him brain dead, according to a GoFundMe raising money for his funeral. His wife — Rosina Torres Chand — decided through advanced directives to take him off life support and donate his organs.
When Chand, 41, became an American citizen, he felt proud that he could get a driver's license. He also wondered what an organ donor was. Once his wife explained, he immediately decided to become one.

A transplant team took Chand to the operating room Wednesday night to take his organs, which will serve three recipients.
"Kamal became a hero, he saved 3 strangers that without him may not have survived, he became a gift to them and their families that prayed for a miracle," the GoFundMe says.
