"Standing in the Shadows of Motown Live" brings the best of Motown to the Music Pier Aug. 30

Stage show version of "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" features James Jamerson Jr.

In 2002, a documentary paid tribute to the unheralded Funk Brothers, the house band at Motown Records. Among others, the band included Earl Van Dyke on piano and organ; Benny Benjamin on drums; and James Jamerson on bass guitar and double bass. “Standing in the Shadow of Motown” - part concert, part documentary - won the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Society of Film Critics awards for best non-fiction film.

A stage show, “Standing in the Shadows of Motown Live,” comes to the Ocean City Music Pier Aug. 30. The show features four singers and a legend’s kid, James Jamerson Jr., on Fender bass. The ensemble will perform over two dozen classic Motown hits, along with video images, stories and anecdotes.
