SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Monday marks the 16th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Many towns in the Somerset County area will be hosting ceremonies and memorials in memory of those who perished.

SOMERSET COUNTY

The public is invited to attend a ceremony that the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders will host in memory of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Led by Freeholder Director Peter S. Palmer, the program will be held at 8:46 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, in front of the county’s 9/11 Memorial, located at the corner of Main and Bridge streets in Somerville. The ceremony will begin with a brief tolling of the bell at the top of the nearby historic courthouse. The Freeholders will read the names of the 39 Somerset County residents killed in the attacks 14 years ago and place a wreath in front of the memorial. BERNARDSVILLE

There will be a remembrance, dedicated to the memory of Allison Horstmann Jones and Thomas Reinig, at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, at the 9/11 Memorial at Bernardsville Public Library, located at 1 Anderson Hill Road. BRIDGEWATER
In memory of those who lost their lives in the attack of the World Trade Center and other sites, Bridgewater Township’s Mayor Daniel Hayes invites residents to attend a memorial ceremony on Monday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m. The ceremony will be held in front of the township’s 9-11 Monument at the Municipal Complex located at 100 Commons Way.
FRANKLIN
In honor of those who were tragically killed on 9/11, as well as those who were injured during the attacks and the many who rose in service in response, Franklin Township will hold a special tribute on Tuesday, Sept. 12, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Franklin Township Municipal Complex, located at 475 DeMott Lane.
GREEN BROOK
The Township invites residents to its memorial ceremony, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, at the Top of the World Park 9/11 Memorial. For further information, contact Township Administrator/Clerk Kelly Cupit at 732-968-1023 ext. 6601.
HILLSBOROUGH
Woods Road Fire Company, located at 324 Woods Road, will host a will host a 9/11 memorial ceremony on Monday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. to honor the first responders who lost their lives on that tragic day. MONTGOMERY
In remembrance of 9/11 and in honor of first responders, Montgomery Township invites residents and staff to the following:
Wednesday, Sept. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. Blood Drive at Fire Station 46 at 529 Rt. 518, Skillman. In honor of 9/11 victims, families and first responders, a blood drive will be held by Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Company 2. Appointments can be made online at http://tinyurl.com/Mont911. Please eat within four hours of donating and bring a photo ID. Walkins are welcome. Call 908-883-9750, ext. 122, for more information.
Donors are invited to visit the Fire Company’s 9/11 Memorial, adjacent to the fire house. Gifts and a raffle entry will be available for donors.
Monday, Sept. 11 from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. and 7 to 8 p.m., Montgomery Veterans Memorial. Memorial is adjacent to the upper parking lot of Montgomery Veterans Park Harlingen Road, Belle Mead. Open house ‘hours of observance’ will be held by the Montgomery Township Veterans Memorial Committee. Open to all residents to foster remembrance and quiet reflection of the tragic events and the bravery that was displayed by those who responded to the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Volunteers will be available to answer questions.
Fire Station 46 – 9/11 Memorial Observance at 6:30 p.m. at 529 Rt. 518, Skillman. Montgomery Fire Co. 2 will hold a brief observance at its 9/11 Memorial, located to the right of the firehouse. There will be brief remarks and a moment of silence to honor the lives of those lost and forever changed by the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. All members of the public are encouraged to attend.
NORTH PLAINFIELD
On the morning of Monday, Sept. 11, North Plainfield will hold its annual 9/11 Silent Procession, which will start at 8:30 a.m. The procession will head east on Greenbrook Road before turning right onto Somerset Street. Firefighters and police officers will form up on LincolnPlace. A memorial ceremony is planned at 8:45 a.m. The public is welcome. For information, call 908-769-2910.
PEAPACK & GLADSTONE
The Borough’s annual remembrance ceremony will be held at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, at the 9/11 Memorial in Liberty Park, located at Main Street and Park Avenue. During the ceremony, wreaths will be placed in memory of those killed. For information, call 908-234-0626.
WARREN
Warren Township’s ceremony will be held on Monday, Sept. 11, at 8:30 a.m. at the 9/11 Memorial in the Municipal Complex, located at 46 Mountain Blvd. For more information, call the Township Clerk’s Office at 908-753-8000, ext. 223.
WATCHUNG
The Borough of Watchung will hold its annual Memorial Ceremony on Monday, Sept. 11, at 5:30 p.m. on the Village Green, across from Borough Hall on the Watchung Circle. Borough officials will unveil Watchung’s new monument in honor of all those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. This ceremony will be held rain or shine.
