4 Candidates To Run For 2 Hillsborough Committee Seats

Republican incumbent Mayor Shawn Lipani and Steven Cohen are running against Democrat incumbent Jeffrey A. Wright and Roger E. Koch.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Monday was the deadline to file for the upcoming primary election in June and four candidates have announced their intention to run for the two Hillsborough Township Committee seats.

Republican incumbent Mayor Shawn Lipani and Steven Cohen will face Democrats incumbent committeeman Jeffrey A. Wright, Sr. and Roger E. Koch in the November election.

Lipani has served on the Hillsborough Township Committee since 2018 and previously served as Deputy Mayor in 2020. He has also served on a number of township boards including the Hillsborough Planning Board, Somerset County Planning Board, Hillsborough EDBC, Hillsborough Board of Adjustment, Capital Planning Board, Tree Mitigation, and Youth Services Commission.

Cohen, who is married with two daughters, currently works as a Facility Manager with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He has also served with the Hillsborough Rotary Club, Hillsborough Planning Board, and Hillsborough Board of Education.

Wright was appointed to the Hillsborough Township Committee in March 2021 to fill an unexpired term. He has served on the Somerset County Planning Board and previously served on Piscataway's Zoning Board of Adjustment, Open Space Committee, and Senior Citizens Committee. He coached Little League Baseball.

Koch, a lifelong Jersey guy, has had a private practice since 2002 in Somerville where he continues to serve people harmed by the wrongful conduct of others, including consumers defrauded by home improvement contractors or auto repair shops, employees cheated out of fair wages, and citizens harmed by defective products. Mr. Koch is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association.

The primary election will occur on June 8 and the general election will occur on Nov. 2.
