HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — The anticipated Apex Sports & Events Complex opening has been pushed back again to Spring 2020 due to unanticipated construction delays.

"We recently discovered some site conditions that were unforeseen, which delayed installation of our turf fields and parking lots," said Gregg Wilke, Apex’s owner and managing partner. "We’ve been able to work through these issues and develop long-term solutions that will ensure the viability of the complex for years to come."

The year-round sports facility located next to Mountain View Park in Hillsborough had initially anticipated opening in spring 2019 and then again in September for its turf fields and entire facility in December 2019. Construction is now moving ahead and Apex is now planning to open by spring next year.

Steel framing started going up in late September, the field lights have been erected, and the installation of the turf fields should be completed over the course of the next few weeks, according to Apex Business Development & Events Director Fred Ewig.

"We just know that, when Apex is completed, it’s going to be a fantastic place for the entire community," said Wilke. "We’d like to thank everyone for their support and we look forward to seeing you when we open our doors next spring."

The facility will not only serve Hillsborough but other parts of Somerset, Mercer, Hunterdon, and Middlesex counties as well.

Apex has been working with municipalities as well as local clubs and groups to use the full-sized synthetic turf fields for practicing or games, Ewig said.

The indoor fields allow for regulation play in all long-field sports such as soccer, lacrosse, and football. There will also be a hardwood court area for sports such as basketball, volleyball, and futsal.

There will also be a family entertainment component with various sports performance amenities including a batting cages/pitching tunnels; a rock climbing area and a play climb area; mezzanine viewing area; a cafe and concessions area; multi-purpose rooms; team rooms; and other supporting spaces.

It will also be open for events such as birthday parties.
