Colonial Park Spray Park Reopens After COVID Closure

Children can cool off at the 6,500 square-foot Spray Park during the heatwave from noon to 8 p.m. every day until Labor Day.

FRANKLIN, NJ — As temperatures soar in Somerset County, it couldn't be better timing for the Spray Park at Colonial Park to reopen for the first time since the COVID pandemic hit.

The park first opened in 2019, but sadly had to sit unused through the pandemic in 2020. The Somerset County Park Commission announced the reopening on Tuesday of the 21-unit Spray Park located behind the Morgan Pellowski Playground.

The Spray Park's re-opening was delayed after inspections in the late spring found some mechanical and other issues with the park.

"We have a hot streak of weather leading into the 4th of July weekend, and the reopening of the Colonial Park Spray Park couldn't have come at a better time," said Mark Caliguire, Somerset County Park Commission President. "Families can come to Colonial Park to enjoy some mini-golf at the putting course, take a spin in the paddle boats, walk the award-winning gardens, and when they need to cool off head over to the spray park with their kids for a respite."

The 6,500 square-foot Spray Park on 1.6 acres is a children-only facility with parents permitted to accompany small children. Children and their parents or guardians will be able to cool off during the heatwave from noon to 8 p.m. every day until Labor Day, Sept. 6. After that, the spray park will be open on weekends from noon to 7 p.m. until Sept. 26.
