County 5K Race to Take Place at Duke Farms In Hillsborough
The annual event will be held this March. Proceeds will benefit Somerset County nonprofits sauce as 4-H, EmPoWER Somerset, and Middle Earth.

Dust off those running shoes. The annual 5K Race to Wellness for Somerset County residents will be held next month at Duke Farms in Hillsborough.
The Somerset County Wellness Committee is partnering with EmPoWER Somerset to sponsor the second annual race for county residents. The 5K will be held rain or shine at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, at Duke Farms. Don’t wait to the last minute to register – there is a limit of 600 participants. Click here to register online.
Prizes will be awarded to top finishers. Proceeds will benefit Somerset County non-profit organizations, including EmPoWER Somerset, Middle Earth, Somerset County Tourism and Somerset County 4-H.

“Regular physical activity is important for maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” Freeholder Director Mark Caliguire stated. “I participated in our inaugural race and was amazed at the number of people who turned out for it. I encourage residents to join us again this year. It’s a beautiful venue and a great course.”
Those who register by Sunday, March 1, will receive a race packet with a long-sleeve ‘Race to Wellness’ t-shirt. The final day to register for the 5K is March 26. Same day registrations will not be accepted. The total registration fee is $27.50, which is comprised of a $25 race fee and a $2.50 signup fee. Parking will be designated offsite with shuttle buses providing transport to Duke Farms.

“Improving the quality of life of the people we serve is a priority for Somerset County,” Caliguire stated. “This race is just one example of the variety of programs that we offer residents.”
“Somerset County was ranked the second healthiest county in New Jersey in 2014. Because our goal is to be ranked Number One, we continue to support and promote programs that promote health and wellness,” Freeholder Patricia Walsh, Wellness Committee liaison said. “We are pleased that the Employee Wellness Committee was able to partner with EmPoWER Somerset again this year to offer the 5K race for the benefit of our residents and nonprofits.”
About the Somerset County Employee Wellness Committee
Established in 2012, the Committee is dedicated to improving and maintaining the general health and well-being of employees. The goal of the Wellness Committee is to promote greater health awareness by providing information, activities and services that are designed to support healthy life choices.
For the second year in a row, Somerset County Government has been selected as a finalist in the Corporate Achievement Hero category in the Healthcare Heroes awards program sponsored by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Hackensack University Medical Center, Comcast Business Class, New Jersey Hospital Association and WithumSmith+Brown, PC.
