Pappas Wins GOP Nomination For District 16 Senate Race, AP Says

DISTRICT 16, NJ — The Associated Press has projected that Michael Pappas will gain the Republican nomination for New Jersey Legislative District 16 Senate in the 2021 general election.

Pappas had previously served as Congressman from 1997 to 1999 and currently serves as Township Administrator in Bridgewater Township.

Pappas defeated Jeffrey E. Grant for the GOP nomination, according to the Associated Press.

Here are the real-time unofficial results for New Jersey Legislative District 16 Senator:

• Michael Pappas - Republican - 6,579
• Jeffrey E. Grant - Republican - 3,568
• Andrew Zwicker - Democrat - N/A

As of 7:15 a.m., the AP did not release the unofficial results for the Democratic race. However, Zwicker will have the Democratic nomination in the general election as the primary race was uncontested.

In the Assembly race, incumbent Roy Freiman and newcomer Sadaf Jaffer both won the Democratic nomination for the general election, according to AP.

They won over Faris Zwirahn.

• Vincent T. Panico - Republican - N/A
• Joseph A. Lukac III - Republican - N/A
• Roy Freiman* - Democrat - 7,288
• Sadaf Jaffer - Democrat - 7,623
• Faris Zwirahn - Democrat - 2,376

As of 11:45 p.m., the AP did not release the unofficial results for the Republican race. However, Panico and Lukac will have the Republican nomination in the general election as the primary race was uncontested.

All of the winning candidates will now run in the general election on Nov. 2.

The 16th legislative district includes Branchburg, Hillsborough, Manville, Millstone, Montgomery, Rocky Hill, and Somerville in Somerset County along with parts of Hunterdon, Mercer and Middlesex counties.
