Fatal Stabbing Of Somerset Man Under Investigation

Police are investigating a homicide where a Somerset man was stabbed numerous times around midnight on Tuesday.

SOMERSET, NJ — Authorities are investigating a homicide where police say a Somerset man was stabbed numerous times around midnight on Tuesday.

Just after midnight on Tuesday, a 911 call reported a man in distress following a fight at a home on Holland Drive in the Somerset section of Franklin, said Somerset County Prosecutor Michael Robertson.

Police found an unresponsive man inside of the home, who authorities have identified as Jamari R. Stephenson, 23, of Holland Drive. Stephenson had been stabbed numerous times and emergency and police responders began life-saving measures, said Robertson.

Efforts to revive Stephenson were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene, said Robertson.

Detectives from the Franklin Township Police Department, along with detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Crime Scene Investigations Unit, and Investigator’s from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the homicide.

A post-mortem examination will be performed by the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and nature. A motive and suspect(s) have not been identified.
