Flood Watch Issued For Somerset County Through Friday Night

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A flood watch has been issued for Somerset County from Thursday night through Friday night by the National Weather Service.

The watch was issued due to a strong low pressure that will hit the area Thursday night through Friday, causing a widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches with locally higher amounts, according to the NWS.

The Somerset County area was already heavily hit with rain this past weekend causing grounds to be saturated. As a result, the upcoming rain will result in flooding of roadways and areas of poor drainage, as well as the potential for significant river flooding.

Here's a look at the upcoming weather forecast for Somerset County, according to the NWS:

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 43. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 26. Calm wind.

Thursday: Rain likely after 1 p.m. Increasing clouds, with a high near 47. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 1 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 44. East wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Friday: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 p.m., then showers after 1 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 59. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
