Flooding At Millstone River Causes Causeway To Close Monday

Parts of the Millstone River in Franklin are flooding Monday and the water level is expected to continue to rise through the day.

FRANKLIN, NJ — The Millstone River has begun to flood Monday causing the Blackwells Mills Causeway to close in Franklin, Somerset County Public Safety announced around 8:30 a.m.

Showers are expected to stop around 9 a.m. but water levels in the river are expected to continue to rise through 8 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

As of 8:45 a.m., the river is at 7.22 feet and expected to rise to 8.8 feet, which is just below the minor flooding stage. Currently, the river is in the action stage meaning the water surface is near or slightly above the top of its banks.

Monday: Showers likely, mainly before 9 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 48. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 21. Blustery, with a northwest wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph.
