Free Seedlings Offered To Hillsborough Residents For Arbor Day

A ceremonial tree planting will also be held on Saturday, April 30 followed by a tree tour and raffles.

Hillsborough, NJ -- In celebration of Arbor Day, Hillsborough Township will be handing out up to five seedlings to the first 200 residents who participates in the Annual Clean Up on Saturday.

The seeds are being offered to replace any trees that may have been lost during Superstorm Sandy or any subsequent weather events.

"This initiative is to provide communities throughout the state an opportunity to replace damaged and dead trees that have fallen victim to weather events," stated Hillsborough Mayor Frank DelCore in a release.

The Annual Clean Up allows residents to dispose of old furniture, toys, rugs, appliances, bicycles, yard debris, and other items at the Department of Public Works' Auten Road facility, located at 21 East Mountain Road.

This program is for Hillsborough Residents only and proof of residency is required. The drop off site is open rain or shine.

“We are happy to announce this partnership is still going strong and we are able to offer not only the free service of access to the facility, but also the seedlings program through New Jersey Recovery,” Committeeman Greg Burchette, Liaison to the Department of Public Works stated in a release.

  • Tree Planting

Additionally there will be ceremonial tree planting on the grounds of the Hillsborough Municipal Complex on Saturday, April 30 at 10 a.m., rain or shine, by Christian Plunkett, ISA Board Certified Master Arborist.

The planting will be followed by a tree tour and discovery outing on the Complex grounds. There will be door prizes that will be raffled off at the completion of the planting.
