Funeral Services Set For Franklin Student Who Died In Gym Class

A fundraiser has been set up to cover the mounting cost of the funeral service and memorial activities for 14-year-old Dyllan Reign Burell.

FRANKLIN, NJ — Funeral services have been set for a 14-year-old Franklin High School freshman who died during gym class on May 8.

A viewing will be held for Dyllan Reign Burrell on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 9 a.m. following by the sendoff from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Eternal Life Christian Center, 322 Franklin Blvd., in Somerset.

Burrell reportedly collapsed and was unresponsive while on the field at the high school at 9:10 a.m. on May 8 during a physical education class, Franklin Township School District spokeswoman Mary L. Clark said.

CPR was performed by staff and he was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick by ambulance. He was pronounced at approximately 11:15 a.m., according to Clark. (See Related: Franklin Freshman, 14, Dies During Gym Class)

Burrell's mother, Tracy Warren, also set up a fundraising page to help cover "the mounting cost of his funeral service and memorial activities." A total of $44,488 has been raised in the past eight days exceeding the $15,000 goal.

"My son was an active, loving child and was taken from us tragically on May 8. In lieu of flowers, I am asking for your kind assistance in covering the mounting cost of his funeral service and memorial activities. Any help, however small,would be greatly appreciated in celebrating the life of my amazing child," Warren said.
