Funeral Set For Hillsborough Man Killed In Lawn Mower Accident

John Levinski, a decorated veteran, "was generous, kind, helpful to everyone and always had a joke to make you smile."

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Funeral arrangements have been set for Hillsborough man, John Levinski, 74, who was killed Sunday evening after a commercial lawnmower fell on him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Hillsborough Funeral Home at 796 Route 206 in Hillsborough. A mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine of Canterbury at 45 Henderson Road in Kendall Park.

"John was generous, kind, helpful to everyone and always had a joke to make you smile," according to his obituary.

Levinski was working on a commercial lawnmower that was hoisted in the air by a cable attached to a Kubota tractor. Police said that the cable broke and the lawnmower fell on Levinski, who died from his injuries at the scene, Lt. Mark Syzmanski said Monday. Levinski was born July 3, 1946 in Munich, Germany. His father was an American Army soldier during World War II and met Levinski's mother after the war. They moved to America when Levinski was 3 years old and resided in New Brunswick.

Levinski enlisted in the Army and became a decorated soldier of the Vietnam War where he served for 2 years. He worked at NJ Bell, Avaya, Lucent Technologies as a repairman, tester and installer for 35 years.

"As a young man he developed a passion for restoring, building, fixing, and collecting cars. His favorite being the Corvette. He was a member of several Corvette clubs and became known as 'Corvette John',"according to his obiturary.

He is predeceased by his father, John Levinski, and his mother Liselotte Levinski.

He is survived by his wife Nancy; brother-in-law Peter; sister-in-law Grace and husband Tom; sister-in-law Christine and husband Michael; sister-in-law Domini; nieces Rochelle; Gina; Dominirose; Victoria; and Christina, and nephew Andrew as well as first cousins Margaret; Patti; Charles; Gerald and James, and many second cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
