Grill Fire Spreads To Hillsborough Home
Hillsborough firefighters were able to put out a fire that started on a backyard grill and then spread to a township home on Tuesday.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough firefighters were able to stop a grill fire that spread to a township home before it caused too much damage on Tuesday.
The grill fire started on the deck on the back of a Gumble Drive home at 1:56 p.m. on Tuesday.
The fire had spread onto and up the back of the home and into the dryer venting causing smoke inside the home, said Station 37 Fire.

Hillsborough Station 37 and 38 were able to put out the fire and stop it from extending further inside the home. All firefighters were able to leave the scene within 90 minutes, said Station 37 Fire.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, 10,600 home fires are started by grills each year, on average.

The National Fire Protection Association offers the following grill safety tips:
- Only use your grill outside.
- Keep it at least 3 feet from siding, deck rails and eaves.
- Keep a 3-foot safe zone around your grill. This will keep kids and pets safe.
- Open your gas grill before lighting.
- Keep an eye on your grill, fire pit or patio torches.
- Don’t walk away from them when they are lit.
- Clean your grill after each use. This will remove grease that can start a fire.
- Place the coals from your grill in a metal can with a lid once they have cooled.
