Halloween Curfew, Safety Tips Announced By Hillsborough Police

Anyone under 18 is not allowed on any public place, public street or public property in Hillsborough between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — With Halloween on Tuesday, the Hillsborough Police Department has put in place a curfew until Nov. 1.

No one under the age of 18 will be allowed on any public place, public street or public property in the township between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. of each and every day through Nov. 1.

The rule does not affect people attending programs or functions sponsored by the municipality, a church or school. And does not apply to anyone under 18 who is returning home from work, school, fraternal or religious meeting or going to and from a doctor's or dentist's office.

Additionally Hillsborough Police Chief Darren Powell offered safety suggestions to Township residents:

  • Wear light-colored clothing that’s short enough to prevent tripping, and add reflective tape to the sides, front and back of the costume.
  • Make sure children can see well through face masks or cosmetics.
  • Adults should accompany young children.
  • Go out in daylight, and carry a flashlight after nightfall.
  • Stay within family neighborhoods and/or only visits homes that you know.
  • Watch for traffic.
  • Only give and accept wrapped or packaged candy.
  • Examine all candy before allowing children to eat it.
  • Keep control of pets. They may react unexpectedly to children in costumes.
  • Remember to adhere to the Hillsborough Township Halloween Curfew regulations.
