Hillsborough Freshman Promotes Earth-Friendly Takeout Packaging
Hillsborough HS freshman Tvisha Faria created a survey asking Somerset County residents asking their opinions about sustainable changes.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough High School freshman Tvisha Faria has recently undergone an endeavor to promote environmental-friendly packaging options for Somerset County restaurants and supermarkets.
In early November of 2020, the New Jersey government introduced legislation banning single-use paper and plastic bags to take effect in May of 2022.
"I had started to notice that restaurants and grocery stores seemed to show slow initiative to adopt more sustainable packing materials. Therefore, I came to the conclusion that this behavior could be due to the effects of the pandemic and the perception of unrecoverable packaging costs," said Faria.

As a result, Faria created a survey that includes multiple questions asking for opinions and personal preferences about sustainable changes to society.
"My main goal is to share the responses of this survey with local restaurants and supermarkets and prove that consumers value sustainable packages, and the people of our community are willing to partially bear the costs of sustainable packaging options," said Faria.
