Hillsborough Group Opposes Banning Sale Of Marijuana In Township

Our Revolution Hillsborough is urging the mayor and township committee not to introduce an ordinance banning marijuana sales on Tuesday.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Our Revolution Hillsborough(ORH), a grassroots political action organization, is calling on Mayor Shawn Lipani and the township committee not to introduce an ordinance on Tuesday that would ban the sale of marijuana in the township.

"ORH is disappointed in Shawn Lipani; Hillsborough, NJ and the Committee for holding back meaningful progress. Their message is proactively supporting the negative stigma which has been debunked for numerous years by the general public and science," the group stated.

ORH shared a letter with the community expressing their views about the ordinance that will be introduced during the Township Committee meeting on Tuesday. Read More: Hillsborough Looks To Ban Marijuana Sales In Township

"Hillsborough residents voted this past November 15,516 to 8,677 to legalize recreational cannabis. Their decision to deny any retail recreational businesses overrides the vast majority of Hillsborough residents who voted in favor of it," ORH stated.

"Their decision to pander to their minority conservative base will cost Hillsborough tax revenue which will go into another town’s coffer. The opportunity to open a cannabis retail space in Hillsborough will proactively stimulate the local economy and will create dozens of good-paying jobs for Hillsborough," ORH continued.
