Varun Deb -A Hillsborough High School junior has received High School Academic All-American recognition by US Lacrosse, the sport’s national governing body —and made school history in the process!
Though nominations have been submitted for the esteemed award before, it is for the first time in Hillsborough High’s Lacrosse program history that a scholastic athlete has been accorded the esteemed All- American title.
That Varun received this award as a Junior makes it even more of a feat of accomplishment for this young athlete. Head Coach Nick Angrisani had not failed to notice expressions of consternation at the NJ Lacrosse Coaches’ Conference when he brought up that his is nominee was a Junior. However, when he listed the accomplishments of this student-athlete, the decision for the nomination was unanimous.

A US Lacrosse All-Academic honoree is a player who exhibits exemplary lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship on the field, and represents high standards of academic achievement in the classroom.
Varun is an accomplished midfielder and an excellent FO (Faceoff) specialist, who finished with near 75% faceoff wins during 2019 season, beating many of the top faceoff specialists in the state and in the country in several showcases.

“Varun has consistently showed outstanding leadership qualities as a student athlete at Hillsborough High School,” said Angrisani “With a string of AP classes, top GPA and a perfect score in ACT, his self-motivation is evident not only on the lacrosse field but in the classroom as well.”
Varun is an actively recruited athlete who desires to play lacrosse in college. He loves the sport along with his other two - Football & Wrestling. He takes over as the President of the Hillsborough High School Student Council for 2019 -20.
