Hillsborough Ice Cream Shop Ranks 9th Most Allergy-Friendly In US

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Super Sundaes Ice Cream in Hillsborough was ranked among the Top Allergy-Friendly Sweets Shops in America, according to AllergyEats' 2019 list.

Super Sundaes, located at 435 Amwell Road in Hillsborough, ranked 9th best out of 15 and was the only ice cream shop to be listed from New Jersey. The top location was Starry Lane Bakery in San Diego, California.

"The need to serve those with allergies has grown over the years. So far, we have been successful in serving people with allergies. We are careful and take necessary precautions to eliminate the possibilities of cross contamination hen serving and handling the customer's order. We have repeat customers because we have gained their trust. We have had no known allergic reactions to these items," said Super Sundaes owners Jayne and Steve.

The shops listed are ranked on how well they do trying to satisfy the sweet tooth of food-allergic consumers.

"Bakeries and ice cream shops can be extremely challenging to navigate for those with food allergies," according to AllergyEats. "In addition to simply using more allergy-triggering ingredients like dairy, eggs, and nuts, they can also often be susceptible to hidden allergens which can trigger reactions."

Super Sundaes also serves Tofutti - a soy based, non-dairy drozen dessert; Italian Ice; Dole Whips; and Vegan cakes.

Compiled from the reviews of food-allergic diners across the U.S. on allergyeats.com, this is the first time this list was released.

"With dairy, egg, peanut and tree nut allergies safe frozen treats are difficult to find. We are super comfortable here. The owner is very knowledgeable about allergies and helpful with keeping things safe from cross contamination," said one reviewer.

"I felt very comfortable giving my son their non-dairy ice cream here. The owner is very knowledgeable about food allergies. One machine is dedicated to non-dairy soft serve and all the tofutti flavors are kept in a different freezer. I ordered the soft serve and the first thing the server did was wash his hands and cleaned a spoon. Thumbs up all around," said another reviewer.

"Love Super Sundaes! My daughter was able to have a safe ice cream cake for the very first time and was thrilled," said a reviewer.
