Hillsborough Named Among Top 50 Safest Cities In New Jersey
Warren Township was the highest-ranked Somerset County town on SafeWise's list of New Jersey's 50 Safest Cities of 2021.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough residents can feel at peace knowing the township was named among the top 50 safest cities in New Jersey for 2021, according to crime statistics analyzed by SafeWise.
SafeWise, a security product review platform, ranked more than 50 cities in 2021 using recent crime statistics and data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. SafeWise also included demographic information and the results of its State of Safety research study.
Looking at the list, Warren was the highest-ranked Somerset County town on SafeWise's list. Hillsborough came in at number 41.

With a population of just under 40,000 here are some of the statistics for Hillsborough:
- Median Income - $115,200
- Violent Crime Rate per 1,000 people in 2021, 2020, 2019 - 0.3, 0.4, 0.2
- Property Crime Rate per 1,000 people in 2021, 2020, 2019 - 4.8, 6.0, 6.3

Not all cities made the list because the city was below the population threshold or didn't submit a complete crime report to the FBI in 2019.
The rankings are intended to highlight cities with low crime rates and to inspire municipalities to talk about how they can make cities safer, according to the SafeWise website.
