SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Seventy percent is the magic number. It's the number of adults New Jersey wants fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by July 1, the amount President Joe Biden wants partially inoculated by July 4 and a figure Somerset County has not quite reached in its adult population.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 68.6 percent of the county's adult residents are fully vaccinated, and 83.2 percent have received at least one dose.

Somerset County as a whole is coming up short. The only town to hit the 70 percent benchmark is Far Hills.

New Jersey reached the milestone of 4.7 million people fully vaccinated last Friday. The New Jersey Department of Health has logged 4.86 million people fully inoculated as of Friday morning. The state is also on the verge of passing a six-month goal of getting 70 percent of all adults — also 4.7 million people — fully vaccinated, Gov. Phil Murphy said Wednesday.
